About the Mentorship Program

The Men of Color Success Initiative (MOCSI) Mentorship Program serves to connect undergraduate and graduate men of color at Cal Poly with a dynamic community of peer and faculty/staff mentors who create a network of social, professional and academic support for mentees. This network serves to further develop mentees’ self-understanding, sense of community, engagement, and persistence towards achieving their degree. The program begins in Fall Quarter and concludes at the end of Spring Quarter.

The program begins in Fall Quarter and concludes at the end of Spring Quarter. Mentees will experience:

  • Monthly group dinners with all mentors and mentees.
  • Bi-weekly (every other week) 1:1 hang-outs with your mentor.
  • Exclusive developmental workshops and experiences.
  • MOCSI Winter Quarter Retreat.
  • Access to local and regional conferences for men of color.
  • Capstone Celebration (Spring Quarter).

Qualifications

  • For Mentees
    • Currently in 1st year status (haven't completed more than three quarters at Cal Poly).
    • Identify as a man of color.
    • Alignment with the mission/goals of MOCSI and the mentorship program.
    • Available ~2hrs per week for mentor responsibilities.
  • For Mentors
    • Cal Poly Undergraduate or Graduate Student, Faculty or Staff.
    • For Students: Completed a minimum of 3 academic quarters at Cal Poly, and minimum GPA of 2.5.
    • Identify as a man of color.
    • Alignment with the mission/goals of MOCSI and the mentorship program.
    • Available ~2hrs per week for mentor responsibilities.
